The On-Call GM
Branding, web development, and print template design
The On-Call GM is a blog focused on the topic of gaming writing. After being run previously on templated services like Blogger, the client wanted something they could work with in more detail.
Focus on the text was crucial to the design of the site. Since subjects like keywords and formatting were vital, the design was minimalist, using only minor colour elements to separate form and content. Additionally, integration of an "emote"-styled system into the CMS was a special request by the client, causing the need for some customization of its Textpattern content management system.
Central Canada Comic Con
Branding, print development, web development
For several years, I volunteered with the organizers of Winnipeg's Central Canada Comic Con (formerly Manitoba Comic Con) to produce a variety of content for print, web, and screen.
I produced logo designs, posters, digital signage, web content and CMS rigging, copywriting, style guides, and other elements to help promote the event and its many aspects. I worked with local professional artists to create strong, high-interest content that would add professionalism and the sense of quality to the event.
Megas
Menu design
The client needed a menu created for his fictional thesis restaurant as his final project in his culinary arts program. As no photographic elements could be used due to the nature of the project, the menu needed a simplified approach to its layout.
Three variants were produced for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The final product was created to be printed with gold foil stamping.
Mattress Mattress
Motion graphics, illustration
Winnipeg design studio Relish needed a cutout animation created for their client Mattress Mattress. The character photographs, designs, and animations were made to give a colourful, lively spin on the process of purchasing a mattress. Minor details, such as wall interiors between transitions of scenes pulled in the viewer's focus and attention, which was particularly important in a dialogue-less, music-only commercial.
The final product aired in the Saskatchewan and Alberta television market.
lanoie.com
XHTML and CSS course development and instruction
I created full course content for the Introduction to XHTML and Advanced XHTML portions of the ISSD program at the University of Winnipeg Distance and Continuing Education. I taught evening courses with three smaller classes with the material I prepared, and prepared and graded assignments.
Mechani-kon 2
Event branding and web development
A small local Warhammer 40K convention, Mechani-Kon 2 needed a new logo and website for their event. Its original branding pulled heavily from pre-existing Warhammer content, and it needed a new approach entirely.
The logo was created using photographic elements instead of vector design in order to include a heavy grunge/mechanical asthetic.
